Testing at the correct depth: 40% versus 20%

40% depth of slab thickness is required for slabs drying from one side.

This occurs when:

  • the slab is poured on the ground
  • poured in a casing (metal pan deck) that doesn’t allow concrete to breathe

20% depth of slab thickness is required for slabs drying from two sides.

This occurs when:

  • the slab is poured above ground
  • the slab can breathe from top and bottom
